I Hate Being Photographed - Can I Still Book a Branding Shoot?

If you’ve ever thought:

“I know I need photos for my business… but I absolutely hate being in front of the camera.”

You’re not alone. Most of the people I work with feel exactly the same way before their session.

They’re good at what they do. They care about their clients. They run solid businesses.

They just don’t love the idea of being photographed, or they assume branding photography is for people who are naturally confident, outgoing, or comfortable promoting themselves.

Spoiler alert -It’s not.

The Biggest Misunderstanding About Branding Photos

Somewhere along the way, branding photography started to look like it was only for influencers or people with big personalities.

Perfect poses. Big smiles. Always “on”.

If that’s what you picture when you think about a photoshoot, it makes complete sense that you’d want to avoid it.

But most everyday business owners don’t need dramatic or over-styled images. They just need good, professional photos that help them show up properly on their website, LinkedIn profile, proposals, or social media.

Photos that show their expertise, culture and how and where they work with clients. Normal people doing normal things. You don’t need to suddenly become someone louder or more outgoing for a photoshoot.

“I Don’t Photograph Well.”

This is probably the number one thing clients say to me.

  • “I never like photos of myself.”

  • “I don’t know what to do with my hands.”

  • “I feel awkward smiling.”

The truth is, most people feel uncomfortable in front of a camera. You’re not supposed to know what to do, that’s my job.

Good branding photography is about guiding you through the shoot so nothing feels forced or uncomfortable.

Most people relax once they realise they don’t have to perform.

Still Feeling Nervous?

That’s completely normal. You don’t need to feel ready or confident to book a branding session. To be honest, even when I have my own shoots I have moments the day before of wanting to cancel because it all feels to hard. Of course I dont, and I have the branding images to prove it!

I often suggest that clients flip the script and instead of making the shoot all about them, I tell them to focus on what the end goal is for the business. Its about creating images that represent your business, and allow you to share your messaging and help as many people as you can.
